Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information and Risk Assessments

All churches were closed in March. During the closure services were recorded and streamed in the St. Giles' YouTube Channel.

If risks were assessed and appropriate contingencies or mitigations implemented, churches were permitted to re-open for private prayer in June. Advice and Risk Assessment Templates were provided by the Church of England - see Church of England Guidance.

From July public worship was allowed and the Parish Eucharist restarted but without singing. As soon as possible organists were invited to practise on the Practice Organ. In Sepember choirs were permitted and ours returns soon.

The following Risk Assessments should be read with the corresponding advice e.g. COVID-19 Advice on the Conduct of Public Worship.

Bell Ringing

Bellringing for a short period (15 minutes) is allowed if social distancing is observed. At St. Giles’ the bell ropes are less than two metres apart so ringing a "proper" diatonic ring is not possible. Nevertheless a test ring for service on Sunday 13th. September is planned and, if the social distance is reduced to one metre, a true octave will be rung. For more information read the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers advice and the St. Giles' Risk Assessment below.
